The current guidelines for the Essay Competition are as follows:

The Essay competition is open to all individuals. However, if your group or class would like to use this as a project and make a single submission to represent your group or class that is perfectly acceptable. For example, the essay could be treated as a class project in which your peers select 1 or 2 essays that would actually be submitted for the NPLTW Essay Competition.

  • Length must be between 600 - 1,200 words. No exceptions. Including title.
  • Work must not have been previously published.
  • Work must not have been submitted in any other national contest.
  • Work must be non-fiction.
  • Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
  • Essays will be judged on: originality and writing skills.
  • Essays must be submitted, through the NPLTW website, as TXT, RTF or DOC.

All essays submitted during between 12:01 AM on April 24th, 2012 through 11:29 PM April 30th, 2011 will be reviewed by our panel of guest judges (TBA). The result of this judging period will be 5 finalists.

A.L.L. Staff Editors will then select the top 3 winners from the 5 finalists.
